Allina Health has announced it has approved plans to construct a 13,500 square foot medical clinic in River Falls.

The clinic will be located on land owned by Allina Health adjacent to the existing River Falls Area Hospital. It will provide space for primary care and specialty providers.

Real estate company MSP Commercial was named this week as the developer for the clinic project, which is expected to break ground within the next couple of months and open to patients in early summer 2017.

“Our market analysis reflects that our community is in need of primary care providers and that gap is projected to widen in coming years,” said David Miller, president of River Falls Area Hospital, part of Allina Health.

“Many residents are already leaving the city to see a primary care doctor elsewhere,” Miller added. “By investing in primary care in River Falls, Allina Health aims to accommodate the health care needs of people in their home town.”

Allina Health’s market research suggests that River Falls and surrounding area is already under-served for primary care providers, which include family and internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology. It also projects the number of primary care visits in River Falls will increase by 14,000 over the next five years.

Without robust primary care provision in the city, fewer specialist services such as mental health, surgery or orthopedics are able to be supported. Allina Health’s significant investment in primary care aims to address those issues by enabling more people to receive their care in River Falls.

Many details of the clinic will be finalized over the coming months. Allina Health hopes to bring new programs and services to the region, which could include mental health services, integrative health programs and telehealth capability (real time videoconferencing with specialists).

“Allina Health has had a presence in River Falls at River Falls Area Hospital since 1983, where you can see our commitment to our community in action every single day,” said Miller. “Our employees perform thousands of hours of voluntary work in western Wisconsin every year; we’ve awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in community grants, charitable donations and scholarships in the past few years alone; and we plan to add to the 264 jobs we already provide right here in River Falls.

“This new investment in the health care services we provide in western Wisconsin is further demonstration of our commitment to the people of Pierce and St. Croix counties.”
